I Took A Walk In The Forest

On a walk in the forest, a young child, who has wandered away from their parent imagines seeing and interacting with a wild assortment of animals.

They are all amiable – some full of spunk, some more reserved – but each group is happy to join the parade. The story ends with animals vanishing as the child and parent reunite – looking forward to their next walk in the forest.

Inspired by “In the Forest” (1944) by Marie Hall Ets, this engaging musical with 7 scenes and 9 songs is intended for performers in grades 1 – 3 with plenty of scenes and songs for each classroom to choose from.

Aline Shader wrote “I Took A Walk In The Forest” in 1969 for her students at Bowen Elementary School in Newton Centre, MA and directed and choreographed the production in 1969 and 1972.

“I Took A Walk In The Forest” can be performed as a fully staged production, semi-staged, select scenes, as a sing-through with narration or as individual songs
Minimal costumes to distinguish child, animal groups, adult
Minimal props: paper horn paper hat, comb jar of honey, jam, peanuts, spoons, towels, soap, chalk and stone for hopscotch.
All props can be pantomimed.
Occasional sound effects needed (horn sound from off stage)
